Alaska, the last frontier. It seems around every corner is a majestic a place of beauty. Here are some unpublished images from a plane ride I took over the glaciers the last time I was up there. Unbelievable!!
August 1 Five
My job sometimes leads to the most amazing experiences. August 1 Five hired me to shoot PR images for their new restaurant specializing in modern Indian cuisine. Everyone there was so much fun to work with and the best part was sampling the fantastic dishes after the shoot. Check them out at http://www.august1five.com/
Head Hand Feet w/ Jamie Mahood
Jamie Mahood is one of the best portrait tattoo artists on the planet. I was lucky enough to have this amazing women do my work a few years back and I wouldn't hesitate to have her do more. Not only are her skills top notch but the conversations are outstanding! We talked music, podcasts, art history, sex, books, and travel just to name a few. Check out her instagram @jamiemahood and if you have the chance sit in her chair. Here's an old series I did with her about a year ago but never blogged about.
The Collector
Like many other photographers I've always got my eyes open for something cool. That can lead to a person having tons of stuff. I'm not a hoarder... yet, however if you walk around my studio you'll see things that I incorporated into my work. Vintage leather helmets, taxidermy or brass knuckles are cool and weird but to me it's something I NEED for work. So if you have any artist friends who seem to have tons of stuff don't judge their collections because it's amazing what inspires people. One of my latest shoots featuring a chrome ballon dog, because it's awesome!
Happy Halloween!
Here's a pumpkin sowing us it's best dance moves!
Head Hand Feet at Birdview Distillery
Kurtis and his brother Scott make Brandy. Award winning, uniquely fantastic and delicious prickly pear brandy. In their Camarillo, CA. space most gear is hand built and what isn't has been modified or reverse engineered for Birdview's specific needs. I got to spend a morning with Kurtis watching, learning, snapping photos and of course tasting all while listening to him tell the story of Birdview.
Gnocchi and Pesto 101
I recently had the pleasure to work with the amazing master food stylist, chef, and all around awesome artist Patty Mastracco (@idofood.) Today she made gnocchi and pesto from scratch. It was incredible to watch her work and even better to eat the results. Check out the images we created and her website at http://www.idofood.com
The Blue Angels
It's fleet week in San Francisco which means the Blue Angels fly over the city on a daily basis. These pilots are amazing!
JCPenney
It's been one year since I left Dallas and JCPenney. It was a great stepping stone in my career to shoot on-figure fashion and lifestyle with JCP. I learned so much from the talented people that position connected me with. Here's some shots from one of the last fall campaigns I did with them. Thank you everyone!
Sara's 100
Let me tell you a little story about my friend, Sara. During her 27 years, she has traveled the world, learned multiple languages, loves quinoa and has a mean garden at her home in Oregon. I've never known her to back down from any challenge or adventure. This past weekend, she ran her first 100 mile ultra marathon (101 miles but who's counting), the Mountain Lakes 100. The run took her 23 hours and 7 minutes, stopping only to replenish supplies and check-in at aid stations. Sara was one of 148 amazing athletes who started this grueling race and one of 95 who finished (first in her age group.) This race pushes you to the limit physically and crushes you mentally. For Sara, the breakdown came around mile 85 where her IT Bands, already killing her since mile 20, made each step excruciating and the fatigue caused her to mildly hallucinate. With the support of her mom running beside her for the final 29 miles, Sara found the strength to power through to the finish. Her performance was nothing less than inspirational and down right impressive. Between cheering her on and cooking for her along the route, I took some pictures. Check out her journey.
